In 2023 Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore SLSC proudly commences it’s 90th year of volunteer lifesaving in our community. Lighthouse Beach is an open beach with strong currents running north and south at different times and is a challenging environment for our volunteers to patrol. We monitor the whole beach and assist other emergency service personnel with emergencies at the Richmond River bar, the river, and other surrounding beaches. The continued popularity of Ballina as a tourist destination sees our volunteers undertake thousands of patrol hours each year. Our Nippers program develops our lifesavers of tomorrow by teaching surf awareness, respect for local conditions.
